Eric Ashburn
Financial Planner & Certified Divorce Financial Analyst®
Eric Ashburn, CFP®, CEPA®, CDFA®, is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional and a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® who works with individuals before, during, and after divorce.
Divorce brings a lot of financial decisions at once, and some can be hard to change later. Eric is another financial advocate in the client's corner. He works alongside the attorney and the other professionals involved, focused on how all of the decisions fit together.
Before an agreement is finalized, Eric helps clients understand whether the proposed outcome works within their broader financial plan. Two settlement options can look similar on paper and lead to very different results over the next 20 or 30 years. He reviews the pension and income calculations and how retirement accounts and support are being handled. Then he walks through what the overall result could mean for taxes, cash flow, and retirement. After the divorce, he helps turn the agreement into a plan for what comes next.
For federal employees and retirees, Eric helps connect decisions involving the pension, TSP, survivor benefits, and FEHB to the rest of the financial plan. That can include what the survivor benefit costs, who pays for it, and how it affects the income picture after the divorce. When a client is also working with Tammy, Eric coordinates with her so the federal benefit details and the broader plan are considered together. The point is not only what clients receive. It is what life looks like once the divorce is behind them.
Eric is also a Certified Exit Planning Advisor and works with business owners, including federal contractors, who are weighing a major change and want a clear read on what each option would mean.
Eric works with individuals and families on an ongoing basis for financial planning. He also works with clients hourly on divorce and business consulting.
